Middletown- Shenandoah FFA’s chapter officers had the opportunity to attend another FFA leadership camp held at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, IN during February 2-3. LDW #2 (Leadership Development Workshops) is a camp designed to enhance or encourage great leadership skills and values. FFA members also attended this camp along with 230 other FFA members from around the state. Closer to home, fifteen members from the chapter attended the 2013 Farmer’s Breakfast at Smith Auditorium on February 15. FFA members assisted with the logistics of the event including serving food, clean up, and hospitality. Members were also treated to an excellent keynote address from Mr. Yager, a local agriculturalist, about the upcoming decisions on the United States Farm Bill. The chapter has most recently celebrated National FFA Week February 16‐23, 2013. This year’s theme was GROW, and this theme celebrates more than 80 years of FFA traditions and what members are eagerly anticipating the organization’s future. More than 550,000 members nationwide will participate in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels. Shenandoah participated in these activities with several dress up days and Minute to win it! Style games during the middle and high school lunches. Shenandoah FFA members educated students during the week about the FFA organization and agriculture. Shenandoah FFA also partnered with the Shenandoah National Honor Society to conduct the annual Pennies for Patients program. The Pennies for Patients program is a national program the collects monetary donations in the form of change for the National Leukemia Society. These two organizations had huge success with these events and thanks students and the community for their support. Shenandoah FFA has been very busy lately and is looking forward to District IX Contest and Convention on March 8th and the district level proficiency contest or better known as SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) on February 28th.

Middletown- The National FFA Organization announced that Nathan DeYoung of the Shenandoah FFA Chapter was selected to receive a career pathways grant in the amount of $1000 to improve his career development experience through his SAE(Supervised Agricultural Experience). A SAE is a practical application of classroom concepts designed to provide real world experiences and develop skills in agriculturally related career areas. Nathan's SAE for these past few years has been in the area of Agricultural Communications. His SAE consist of working with information technology, writing for local sources, designing digital artwork, and communicating through speeches and presentations. To be eligible for this grant students must be in grades 7-11 and be a active member of the FFA. Nathan was selected from hundreds of applications nationwide. Nathan stated: "This is a wonderful opportunity for me and plan to use this grant to further and grow my knowledge about agricultural communications." On the note of SAEs, other members from the chapter are preparing their SAE areas for contest. Their proficiencies will be graded and judged at the District level in February.
Middletown- On Friday, January 4, 2012 the Shenandoah FFA chapter had four members travel down to the second CDE (Career Development Event) camp at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center. Shenandoah members’ joined around 40 other FFA members from around the state at the center in Trafalgar, IN. McKenna Resler, a chapter member, stated that: " It was an awesome camp to experience; I gained a deeper knowledge about the various CDEs that Indiana FFA has to offer and has made me really excited for contest this year..." CDE camp is a different from the other camps held by the state association. This camp is geared towards a full "CDE" learning experience. Indiana FFA is proud to be offering such camps and conferences to students to development their skills in decision making, self-confidence, and ability to effectively lead out loud. The New Year has also arrived for our chapter: work, dedication, and perseverance are only a few words that describe the next few months at Shenandoah FFA. The next event that our chapter will participate in is the second LDW (Leadership Development Workshops) at the FFA Leadership Center February 1-3, 2013.
Middletown – On Sunday, December 16, 2012 the Shenandoah FFA Chapter held its annual Snug Harbor Christmas party for the mentally disabled at the High School. Nearly 135 guests attended the afternoon that was full of fun and laughter. Santa Claus even made an appearance to hand out gifts to each and every guest in attendance. Guests were also treated to a hot meal provided by Barb Addison and live music by Walker County. Shenandoah FFA wants to thank its members for making this year's party a huge success! The NHS and FFA Toy Drive came to a close on Friday, December 14, 2012. The FFA would like to thank the community for their outstanding support in this event. Your contributions helped us in making someone’s Christmas brighter. Shenandoah FFA's and National Honor Society's toy drive has been in existence for over 40 years and has assisted hundreds of families during the holiday season. In other news, FFA members will be traveling on January 4 to the Indiana FFA Leadership Center to engage in the 2012 CDE(Career Development Event) Camp. This camp teaches younger and older members about new or revised CDE contests for the state of Indiana through educational presentations. Middletown –Shenandoah members’ joined several hundred other FFA members from around the state at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, IN during November 16-18. Members were attending the annual F.I.R.E. (Foundations in Reaching Excellence) conference. This year FFA members were treated to the theme of “We have the Magic” which was selected by the Indiana State Officer team. One member of the chapter, Adam Lovan, said “F.I.R.E. was a great opportunity for me and attending has benefited me in many ways such as developing new friends, learning skills for success, and developing a foundation for my future…” Indiana FFA is proud to be offering such experiences to students to development their skills in decision making, self-confidence, and ability to effectively lead out loud. On Friday, November 30th the annual Holiday Fruit Sales came to a close with a tremendous year in sales. Shenandoah FFA is proud to state that the chapter had a very exceptional year in sales when came to member involvement and the overall participation of the community.
Shenandoah FFA remains very busy as we approach the holidays; with the Snug Harbor Christmas Party which will take place on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at noon. Shenandoah FFA is also concluding their annual toy drive with NHS this Friday. Donors are encourage to bring their new or gently used donations to any Shenandoah school office or the Ag shop. The Shenandoah Chapter of the National Honor Society and the Shenandoah FFA Chapter are combining their resources and talents to provide a wonderful Christmas for needy children in the Shenandoah area. 2012 has been financially challenging for so many that we are anticipating the requests to be greater than normal. We are actively taking monetary donations and collecting NEW and GENTLY used toys, electronics, games, and other items for children of ALL ages now through December 12th. This toy drive has been in existence for over 40 years and has assisted hundreds of families during the holiday season. Toys and other items can be dropped off at any Shenandoah School office or the Agriculture shop. Please support the effort in whatever way you can. Middletown- Shenandoah FFA is full swing with the upcoming National FFA Convention later this month, Food for America Week, District IX Kickoff, and even the annual FFA holiday fruit sales. Shenandoah FFA is excited to let the community know all about this month’s activities. District IX Kickoff took place a Wednesday October 10, 2012 at Knightstown high school. Students for Shenandoah FFA attended a night of fun, games, and quick a session held by the District IX and the Indiana FFA Association officer teams. Food for America week will be taking place October 15-20. Our chapter will be hosting a variety for fun-filled activities for Shenandoah Elementary school during this week including a canned food drive and Young McDonald’s farm. Young McDonald’s Farm is an education experience in which elementary students learn about animals and food production. Shenandoah FFA would also like to announce that the annual chapter fruit sales have begun. If you are interested in making a purchase this year please contact a chapter member. Funds collected from this fundraiser will go to many of Shenandoah’s nationally known community service events such as Snug Harbor Prom for the mentally disabled. Shenandoah FFA would like to thank the community for the outstanding work in supporting our chapter and events. On October 6, 2012 fourteen FFA members travelled to the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, IN for the annual SOAR (Seeking Opportunities Achieving Results) camp. During this camp member’s engaged in an interactive learning experience that consist of setting SMART goals, becoming a leader in their community, learning about SAEs (Supervised Agricultural Experiences), and CDEs (Career Development Events). The camp came to a close on Sunday with a general attendance of 210 members from around the state of Indiana.
On Friday, September 7, 2012 at 5pm the Shenandoah FFA chapter held their second annual AgriaPalooza. This year, according to President Ann McCambridge, was an exceptional year in reference to the attendance, food, and the members’ participation in the event. “287 people were in attendance to this event… I couldn’t be more pleased with the turn out and the participation of the community in this event, despite the weather.” Shenandoah FFA would like to send the deepest thanks to all of their sponsors for AgriPalooza. AgriPalooza would not be possible without the support of the community, members, and sponsors.
Taking place just this past weekend the chapter was able to attend two annual FFA camps called: Leadership Development Workshop (LDW) and Premier Leadership Training (PLT). Members and chapter officers received the chance to interact with the Indiana State FFA association officers during LDW by developing their premier leadership skills through lively activities. District officers attend PLT and spent their days training and gaining skills to use within the newly elected district officer positions. During the duration of PLT participants were offered the opportunity to ask questions to a panel at the Conner Prairie Interactive Museum at the “Feeding the World” presentation. LDW and PLT came to close on Sunday afternoon as seven of Shenandoah members’ joined several hundred other FFA members from around the state at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, IN. Indiana FFA is proud to be offering such experiences to students to development their skills in decision making, self-confidence, and ability to effectively lead out loud. Middletown- On Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 6pm the Shenandoah FFA chapter held their annual chapter call-out meeting for all students that have an interest or were curious about the FFA organization. Breana Perry, the chapter’s Treasurer, began the evening in prayer before beginning the delicious meal of pizza and desserts. During the meal attendees were treated with an “Olympic” style training video and a photo slideshow, highlighting the chapter’s activities and officers. Each person in attendance went through four mini-sessions about various topics associated with the FFA like: FFA Camps, AgriPalooza, Indiana FFA Truck Ticket Sales, and District IX Kick-off. The chapter officers were ecstatic about the attendance and the energy of the room during the event. Over 75 people were in attendance and Shenandoah FFA is looking forward to a great year. The advisors left everyone with one thought for the year; How will you GROW with Shenandoah FFA? The chapter would also like to announce that annual AgriPalooza presentation dinner will be on September 7, 2012 beginning at 5:30pm. Cost of the meal will be only $7 or take a chance by purchasing an Indiana FFA truck ticket and a meal ticket for only $10.
On Saturday, May 19, 2012 Shenandoah FFA held its annual Awards Banquet for members, their families and guests of the community. The evening focused on honoring those members and guests for their efforts to efficiently and effectively run a large chapter. Sloan Griggs, the 2011-2012 Chapter President, called the Banquet Hall to order at six that evening and it concluded around eight, with Ann McCambridge the 2012-2013 Chapter President presiding. The final moments of the banquet celebrated the services of the past Chapter Officers and welcomed the newly elected 2012-2013 Chapter Officers. Shenandoah FFA would like to thank all those who attended the banquet. We are looking forward to June, when the 83rd Indiana FFA State Convention and Contest will commence at Purdue Univ.
