Middletown- Shenandoah FFA’s chapter officers had the opportunity to attend another FFA leadership camp held at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, IN during February 2-3. LDW #2 (Leadership Development Workshops) is a camp designed to enhance or encourage great leadership skills and values. FFA members also attended this camp along with 230 other FFA members from around the state. Closer to home, fifteen members from the chapter attended the 2013 Farmer’s Breakfast at Smith Auditorium on February 15. FFA members assisted with the logistics of the event including serving food, clean up, and hospitality. Members were also treated to an excellent keynote address from Mr. Yager, a local agriculturalist, about the upcoming decisions on the United States Farm Bill. The chapter has most recently celebrated National FFA Week February 16‐23, 2013. This year’s theme was GROW, and this theme celebrates more than 80 years of FFA traditions and what members are eagerly anticipating the organization’s future. More than 550,000 members nationwide will participate in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels. Shenandoah participated in these activities with several dress up days and Minute to win it! Style games during the middle and high school lunches. Shenandoah FFA members educated students during the week about the FFA organization and agriculture. Shenandoah FFA also partnered with the Shenandoah National Honor Society to conduct the annual Pennies for Patients program. The Pennies for Patients program is a national program the collects monetary donations in the form of change for the National Leukemia Society. These two organizations had huge success with these events and thanks students and the community for their support. Shenandoah FFA has been very busy lately and is looking forward to District IX Contest and Convention on March 8th and the district level proficiency contest or better known as SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) on February 28th.
